Positive Legacy

One World United Through Music

Positive Legacy is the non-profit arm of Cloud 9 Adventures. Positive Legacy is a 501(c)(3) charity organization committed to integrating live music and service by taking actions that positively impact people and the environment in the communities that we visit. The goal is to develop service activities that people can participate in to bring a deeper sense of purpose to their travel experiences and the music surrounding it. Check out last year's efforts below!

Positive Legacy Charity Auction

We are excited to announce that Positive Legacy was able to raise $17,550 through this year’s silent & live auction! Jam Cruise is where it all began and the support we have received over the years is constantly growing! It’s because of all of you that we're able to keep our auctions exciting and interesting year after year! A huge thanks goes out to all of you who bidded on and purchased an auction item.

We also couldn't have done it without the musicians and patron artisans who donated special one-of-a-kind items! Proceeds from the auctions will support Positive Legacy’s humanitarian & environmental projects such as the Deer Dance project of Southern Belize.

Update on Belize Beneficiaries

Deer Dance Festival

Thanks to a $13,750 grant from Positive Legacy, the 4-day Deer Dance Festival was performed in Santa Cruz, Belize the from Jan 6-10th! This provided education and technology to Maya teens in order to integrate students in the video production of a documentary about Maya heritage and the traditional practice of the Deer Dance. Check out a trailer for the Maya Deer Dance, a Cool Anthropology and Daniel Velazquez documentary.

Drums Not Guns

Our goal for this is to support nonviolence and self-empowerment among at-risk youths in the area. A $1,000 grant to Drums Not Guns in Punta Gorda, Belize helped to host an event where youth could participate in drum circles, dancing, poetry and more. In the spirit of ‘One World United through Music’, Master Kriol Drummer Emmet Young brought his drumming students to the Village of Santa Cruz on Jan 8th to perform for school children. This was a unique experience where cultures were exchanged and music created a melting pot that joined everyone together.

Educational Tropical Garden

Giving back with art! $2,500 was provided for the installation of an Educational Tropical Garden and an environmentally conscious mural representing biodiversity in Memorial Park, Belize City. The mural was painted on January 8th and the garden will be installed on January 26th with the help of the local community partners.

Activites that are Leaving a Positive Legacy

Costa Maya Beach Celebration

With the help of Zach Deputy, Scott Pemberton, and Paul Hoffman, everyone came together and helped host an amazing beach celebration. After spending the day enjoying all the music, we all joined together for a beach cleanup to insure our positive vibes rippled out into the community of Costa Maya. We always want to leave a place better than how we found it. We are so grateful for the un-ending support and hardwork of all the Positive Legacy supporters as well as all of the help we get from the many artists!

FUNK that Tune BINGO!

Bingo was hosted by the New Mastersounds, Melissa McMillan, and members of Snarky PuppyA big thank you goes out to this year’s hosts for providing live tunes and a shenanigan filled BINGO afternoon. Proceeds went to benefiting Positive Legacy's efforts. This was a fun easy way for everyone to get involved. No matter how involved you want to get, just keep in mind that it all makes a differenceThank you to all of you who joined in the funky times and supported the cause!

Celebration With Everyone Orchestra

This unique, collaborative performance encourages audience interaction. This year was studded with amazing musicians such as Marco Benevento, Reed Mathis, Jans Ingber, Amy Helm, Vernon Reid (Living Colour), Anders Beck (Greensky Bluegrass), Paul Hoffman (Greensky Bluegrass), Nicki Bluhm, Isaac Teel (Tauk), Pappy Biondo (Cabinet), Scott Pemberton, Mikhail Savoulidis (Twiddle), Ron Holloway, & Jeffrey "Congo” Franca.

Ivan Neville’s Annual Texas Hold Em’ Tournament

Jam Cruisers took their chances playing against some of their favorite musicians and fellow cruisers. This was perfect for all those who were feelin' lucky onboard to try their luck. Of the $60 buy-in, $10 of that was donated to Positive Legacy efforts. This was definitely a crowd favorite amoung our supports and is such an easy way to get involved while testing your skills!

Offsetting Our Carbon Footprint

Positive Legacy and Trees, Water & People made it easy to travel responsibly by offsetting the emissions for Jam Cruise 14. Offset donations go towards supporting a community tree nursery that is producing 10,000 trees a year for rural communities on the north coast of Haiti. If you want to make a donation, simply add a Carbon Offset to your reservation for Jam Cruise.
